Cyclone Yasi Update
04 February 2011We know Queenslanders are a tough bunch of people but the events of the past month are surely testing the mettle of some. First the devastation of the floods and now North Queensland being battered by two cyclones in the matter of 2 weeks! Let's hope we get to experience some of our summer for the rest of February!
Again our thoughts and prayers go out to those people affected by Cyclone Yasi. Queensland police have confirmed one death, a 23-year-old man in the small town of Bamboora with many thousands more affected by property destruction and still without power and water.
Described by officials as one of the largest to hit the continent, Cyclone Yasi moved west and was downgraded to a "tropical depression" from a category 5 cyclone Friday. The storm had forced tens of thousands of residents to seek safety away from its path.
The storm missed a direct hit on Cairns and Airlie Beach with the majority of our buildings under management in Cairns and the northern areas, and the Whitsundays not experiencing any major damage. Unfortunately buildings under management in areas south of Cairns such as Townsville and Mission Beach were not so lucky. We will ensure that we work as hard as we can to have any issues rectified as quickly as possible.
We would ask that our clients be patient as our Cairns and Townsville offices have also been affected by the cyclone. Our Cairns office is back up and running however if you are unable to get through on the phones your Body Corporate Managers can be contacted on mobile:
- Stephen McCulloch - 0409 056 058
- Tony Blenkinsop - 0417 600 489
Our Airlie Beach office is operating normally so if you have been affected please don't hesitate to contact them.
Your Body Corporate Managers will be ensuring that they contact each of their buildings to enquire about their wellbeing and to arrange an insurance assessor if required. We would ask that owners be patient and understanding in the recovery efforts as there are a large number of people affected and it will take some time to attend to all the issues being faced. We will however do everything possible to ensure your concerns are attended to as quickly as possible and are committee to providing any assistance to those that require it in this time of need.
With offices in most of the major areas affected by flooding, a large number of our clients will be requiring assistance to help rebuild their lives. Archers are committed to providing any assistance to those that require it in this time of need.
